ROLE
The Senior Accountant is a newly created role that will work closely with the Audit, Tax and Technical Accounting Manager to effectively and efficiently complete a variety of tasks including (i) technical accounting research for multiple business units, (ii) the management of various financial statement audits, and (iii) the management of non-income taxes and the income tax return process. At times, this role might also assist with certain monthly/annual financial close responsibilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES


• Analyze, research and conclude on technical accounting topics as they arise including (i) identifying and clarifying the issues, (ii) researching the applicable literature (GAAP, audit firm guidance, etc.), (iii) recommending the appropriate accounting treatment and (iv) documentation of the issues, applicable guidance and conclusions through technical memos.
• Evaluate and summarize contracts (leases, management agreements, etc.) on a timely basis as they are executed including documentation of key terms and all relevant GAAP accounting.
• Assist with the implementation of any new accounting guidance (revenue recognition, leasing, etc.).
• Assist with the management of multiple financial statement audits across several external audit firms, which may include (i) PBC list coordination, collection, and submission of requests, (ii) coordination of engagement and management representation letters, and (iii) preparation of final overall analytical review documentation.
• Perform certain tasks related to the non-income tax processes, which may include (i) keeping process documentation up-to-date, (ii) the completion of specific controls, (iii) the calculation of certain non-income taxes, and (iv) ensuring the timely filing of returns and payment of amounts due.
• Assist on an as needed basis with the tax projection and income tax return processes, which may include (i) management of relevant PBC lists, (ii) analysis of certain accounts or other items and (iii) research of relevant tax issues.
• Perform reconciliations and prepare journal entries (as necessary) for certain identified balance sheet accounts to ensure items are properly and accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP.
• Assist with responding to requests from other parties including auditors, tax professionals, MLB and internal parties (the Controller, other departments, etc.).
• Perform other ad hoc requests as they arise.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


• A four-year undergraduate degree or graduate degree in accounting from an accredited university or college
• Minimum of 1.5 years (including 2 busy seasons completed) of public audit experience
• CPA or progression toward CPA
• Strong accounting knowledge, interpersonal skills and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively research and understand technical accounting issues
• Demonstrated ability to work in an organized manner and manage time efficiently and effectively
• Ability to take ownership and administer projects with little guidance
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


• Masters Degree in Accounting or MBA
• Big Four audit experience
• 3-4 years of accounting and/or audit experience.
• Consistent annual performance reviews in the top quartile
