ROLE
The Assistant Director of the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field Archives will be responsible for continuing the development of the Archives program for the oldest, continuous professional sports team still playing in its original city. In addition to assembling, cataloguing, preserving and managing valuable collections of historical information, the Director will work with a wide variety of public and private sector organizations and provide an overall support function for preserving and celebrating the history of the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field.


RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead effort to preserve Cubs and Wrigley Field history, from strategy to implementation;
• Evaluate and appraise records and items of potential historic significance for preservation and retention;
• Determine short- and long-term planning, budget and strategy for Archives;
• Oversee catalogue collections, including accessioning, arrangement, description and preservation;
• Liaise with donors and lenders;
• Respond to enquiries from members of the public and other users;
• Advise users on how best to access, use and interpret archives;
• Promote the history of the Cubs and Wrigley Field through exhibitions, presentations, talks and visits, including programming various display efforts around the Wrigley Field campus;
• Collaborate with Architectural, marketing and project teams for the on-going 1060 Project and historical programming for Wrigley Field;
• Perform other related duties.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A genuine interest in the history of baseball as part of American Culture and the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field in particular.
• Familiarity with National Park Service Exhibit Conservation Guidelines, special collections and institutional archives.
• A four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited university or college in relevant course study.
• 3-5 years of professional experience working with archives and special collections; museum experience preferred.
• Familiarity with historic recordkeeping and requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage highly sensitive material in a confidential and secure manner.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Competence in administrative procedures, problem-solving and project management skills.
• Ability to supervise outside/consultant professional archivists, paraprofessionals and volunteers.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3-5 years of curation experience.
• ALA-accredited MLS degree with specialization in archives administration or ACA certification preferred.
• Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects (ranging from the mundane to the complex), deadlines and initiatives with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in non-ideal conditions involving cramped/dirty conditions should a collection effort so require and/or to travel on short notice to evaluate collection/donation opportunities.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., extensive computer use and work in connection with material that may cause allergic reactions, particularly to dust, and in areas with little ventilation.
